This just in today from Bill Davis.

Hi Roger,

After sending my Facebook message about Bob Beguelin I did a search and noticed you are doing a Gambles blog.  In 2010 Bob sent me a sample of the the printed newsletter and email address sheet.

I wanted to email directly my Gambles Facebook friends but the email addresses don't seem to show in Facebook.  I guess they want us to message through them.

Bob sent me an email list but was from 2008.  Do you have an updated list?
Thanks,
Bill Davis

and from John Jones.

I want to get blog updates and share info

ROBERT BEGUELIN

Hi Roger

We just learned that we lost our good friend, Bob Beguelin, on 9/1-- he was 84.

His obituary is available on Google.

I called him in June and he had no serious health problems that were life threatening at  that time -- had a large vegetable garden -- gave most of it to his neighbors and they were bringing him pies and cakes -- had a big-screen TV and was watching all of the baseball games -- seemed very contented in the home that he and Marge and then Donna shared there in Lawrence.

Bob grew up in Lawrence -- graduated from Kansas University -- worked his  way through school at the local Gamble Store. He went on to manage the stores in Abilene, Dodge City, Salina and Ottawa.

Bob then moved to Nebraska and served as a zone manager before being promoted to a position in franchise operations in Minneapolis. When the Gamble Division closed its doors, he transferred to Our Own to work in store development in Michigan. At age 65 he retired and moved back to Lawrence..

We will remember him for his big smile -- sparkling personality, positive attitude and as a  great friend.

I have posted his obituary in that section of this web site.

We will truly miss Bob.

From Ray and Marlys LaMorie

Finally had time to sit down and catch up-to-date with Gambles Alumni.
Do miss Arlene's
Newsletter.  Great website.

Things are about the same with us.  Should have retired years ago but
still working 40 hours
a week at Target.  Have been there 12 years now.  Almost as long as I was
at Gambles.

Ray and I celebrated our 35th anniversary in April.

Thanks for taking time to keep us all informed.  Sure wish I could have
been there for
get together in June but was visiting family in California.

Thank you Marlys, we need news like this to keep this site going.

JUNE CASUAL EVENT

From Arlene Weinzierl:

The first "casual" get-together of Gamble Friends on June 14, 2013 at the outdoor patio of Champps in Ridgedale, was a real hit. A sit-down, order from the menu lunch. There were 25 attendees: Greta (Korst) & Harold Anderson; Lee Buckholz; Jim Ehlert; Bonnie Enfield; Roger & Ellen Hanson; Carol Holmquist; Terry Johnson; Warren Johnson; Jane Kibler; Paul Kunnick; DeWayne & Dorothy Lukkasson; Marie Marino; Connie Robertson; Joanie Saleck; Mary Schupanitz; Dean van der Werf; Dick & Marietta Walker; Lars & Jean Wallin; Marilyn (Sifferle) Walter and Arlene Weinzierl.

Everyone agreed that Dick Walker and DeWayne Lukkasson did a terrific job of finding the ideal place for this first "casual" event. Will there be another? There is talk of doing it at Christmas time. Same place (heated of course). You will hear more as plans progress.

Thanks you Arlene, I hope that I didn't make too many errors in transcription. Roger

Roger

It was great to see you and Ellen  at our mini Gamble reunion in Vegas.  We appreciated Buddy and Susan Valdez allowing us to use their condo at the Marriott as a meeting place. We were all surprised to learn that Sam and Julie Skramstad were leaving for a scuba diving vacation on The Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Gene Stephens and Cathy were leaving for Florida the following week to attend a friend's wedding--A very active group of  seniors .

It was a good week for all of us--attended some terrific shows--some guys played golf-- some just shopped, but the best days were spent  reminiscing about the time we shared at Gambles and the many markets and trips we attended together and the friendships it created.

Our favorite [ for Marietta and me ] was the trip to Rome with Jerry Eveslage as our tour guide--anyone there will remember  the Toga Party where we were all coerced into wearing togas..All  were photographed  and we didn't realize how stupid all looked until the  next morning  when we found the photos  on rhe walls of the lobby in the hotel.[ they were  all purchased in a few minutes just to get them out of sight]

Look forward to seeing you on June 14th

Dick

JANUARY 13, 2013 NEWS

From Ruth Kusel:

Hank and I are enjoying our retirement. We have been able to travel once in awhile. We will celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary in the Spring.

We also have ice fishing on our lakes. Two of grandsons were out yesterday. Ruth Kusel

From Jerry Hangartner:

Hello Roger,

A GREAT BIG "THANK YOU" to Arlene (especially) and all the Board members that over the years have kept Gambles alive on hard copy. What a major task.

Judy and I are kept very busy with lots of church work, volunteering, singing, travel in the USA, and fishing with Dale Bingham and his sons in Canada. We celebrated our 50th wedding anni. in 2012 and enjoyed a trip down the Mississippi River from St. Paul, MN to St. Louis, MO on the Mississippi Queen, the only paddle wheeler on the Mississippi. The trip was beautiful, the service beyond compare, and the 7 days were just plain wonderful.

Thank you Roger for taking on the task of the website. I will access it often

Thanks Ruth and Jerry for your updates. Let's all keep the news coming.

JANUARY 7, 2013 NEWS

Roger Hanson - We received Arlene's last new letter and were unable to enter the gambles alumni news email she had in there so am sending email to you as we would like to enter our present email address to your mailing list if you receive any Gamble news. Carl was Gamble manager in Glasgow, Havre and Hamilton, Montana and then Carl and Evelyn purchased a dealer store in Salmon, Idaho, which we had for ten years. Always enjoyed the news letters and catching up on news. We are now in our 90's but still living in our house and belong to the Hamilton Senior Center and also the Golden Age Club. We attend a dance every Friday night at the Golden Age and play pinochle at both the Senior Center and at the Golden Age at least four times a month. Manage to keep busy and able to enjoy ourselves. Our email address is

cespoony@optimum.net. Good luck with this.

Carl and Evelyn Spoonheim, 243 Weber Drive, Hamilton, Montana 59840

Hi Roger,
Logged into the Gambles website and it looks great. It was fun reading the history link on Gambles. Our neighbor on Big Sandy Lake, MN worked for a company that did the maintenance for 5100 Gamble Drive, so we oftern talk about former mutual friends at the home office.
My wife, Betty, and I are mainly in good health and enjoying retirement.
Minus 13 degrees, too cold today to go ice fishing, probably will try tomorrow. Thanks's for your efforts on behalf of Gambles and it's former employees..
Jim Berg,
Gambles '70-80, Zone Manager, R&D Manager, Regional Operations Manager

Thank you Jim and Carl for your updates. Ellen and I live on the shore of Lake Elysian near Mankato. Lots of ice fishing houses just outside of our door.

Everyone keep the news coming.
